I will be in Lausanne in March this year. Pl advise regarding the clothes I should wear. Is it very cold? Does it rain? (I live in India, if that helps)

The temperature in Lausanne, as in that part of Switzerland in March, will be from 5 to 10 degrees C (40 to 50 deg. F) so it'll still be cold and you'll still need to bring your warm winter clothes (sweaters, jackets, overcoats, gloves, hats, scarves...). The good thing is it rarely gets down to freezing or below as it does in January and February.

March is the least rainy month of the year there but it still rains some so pack yourself an umbrella too.

Namaste

I feel happy for you because you will be going to Lausanne which is very beautiful ... and sorry because unless you live in a cold spot like Simla or somewhere in Himachal, your clothes will not be warm enough for Switzerland this time of year. Lausanne is right on Lake Geneva (Lac Leman, as the Swiss call it) and with the wind blowing off the lake, it will be cold and damp.

If you are taking Indian clothes, maybe you should wear warm tunics and churidhars. That way you will be warm enough in Switzerland, and can take back with you to India something you can actually wear at home.

A friend of mine who lives in New Delhi has the most beautiful light wool tunics with embroidery which she had made for her .... they look so warm and cosy. If you can, buy a coat ..... but if not, take a warm shawl and buy some winter gear (coat, scarf, gloves and boots) once you get to Switzerland ....

I would not wear saris because it is difficult to get a coat on over them without wrinkling them, and because they really are not warm enough (the cold air under the arm hitting your midriff!).

Personally if I were doing what you are doing, (provided you are living in some cosmopolitan city like New Delhi) I would first find the Tibetan stores and buy some of those embroidered boots from Tibet (you will need to put on socks first) and maybe one of those beautiful hats they make of brocade with a lovely fur brim .... and see if they have gloves .... and then I would have made for me three tunic & churidhar sets in the colors that would go with the Tibetan clothes .... and buy some sort of shawl to wear.. It would look very chic and beautiful! I do not know what sort of coat to suggest ....

It is the first of March tomorrow .... I hope you can get your wardrobe together ....and if not, just wear a nice shawl and go shopping once you get to Switzerland.

Peace & Love

It will be cold, but that doesn't mean you have to take mountains of luggage. We always tell people to pack light.... if you forget something, you'll be able to get it there.
