There are plenty of these storage devices - basically they're battery operated hard drives with a built-in LCD screen. You can upload to these devices without a computer, review your pictures, and perhaps they throw in a few extra features (like an mp3 player, etc). From word of mouth, Epson makes the best ones. They currently have a 40 GB model (the P3000), an 80 GB model (the P8000), and here's a review for their previous 40GB model (the P2000) that now sells for about $300: http://www.moosepeterson.com/gear/epsonP2000.html

There are a few on the market. The one I like most is "i.Perris Super20" (20G HD) portable. You can download direct from memory cards to the device without PC and vice versa (very neat indead). It runs on rechargable batteries. It has LCD screen to show the data being tranfered. It costs about US$129-140 depending on the dealers. The one I got is from Geeks.net. (only US$109) But they have no more stock.

The other option is a similar product but less feature i.e. not reverse tranferring of data. It is called "Photo Bank portable personal data centre". It is a casing with a large LCD screen. It is cheaper, at about US$40 (not including HD). But you have to purchase a separate HD.

Both of the above have multi memory card slots.

YES... it's called a LAPTOP... and that's one of the ways I use mine when I'm traveling. I don't know of any stand alone storage devices.
