What version of the bible are you getting, "Holy Mary, mother of God..."? KJV says "And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" NIV says "But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" I cannot find a single version that call Mary holy?? Ive seen more than one Catholic refer to that scripture calling Mary holy.

Meg you have never seen that? This is a response you gave to a question from Jill copy and pasted.
>>These are just two prayers to Mary that I remember having to say in catecism and in church.<<
Firstly, it is actually one prayer, and you have the second part first and the first part second. Secondly, what part of "Pray FOR us" do you not understand? Do YOU deny that the Bible says "pray for one another" (James 5:16)? If I ask you to pray FOR me, is that idolatry?
>>So far no one had denied that they say these prayers!<<
No, I don't deny praying SCRIPTURE. Why are you so afraid of SCRIPTURE?
Hail May, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, (Luke 1:28)
Blessed Art Thou amongst women, (Luke 1:42)
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus, (Luke 1:42)
Holy Mary, Mother of God, (Luke 1:43)
Pray for us sinners, now (James 5:16)
and at the hour of our death.
Amen
YOU NEVER SAW THAT? Hmm strange?

I never said there is anything wrong with Mary but I believe nobody is Holy save the Lord himself and Jesus Christ.

Meg, this is what the Bible says about John the Baptist.
Matthew 11:11
11I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Jesus himself said that. It doesn't say he is holy.

Meg
Mark 6:20
20because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man. When Herod heard John, he was greatly puzzled[a]; yet he liked to listen to him.
When I am wrong I admit it.

>>Ive seen more than one Catholic refer to that scripture calling Mary holy<<
I've never seen that, but I can't understand anyone objecting to calling her holy. Calling her holy does not make her a deity, as someone implied. John the Baptist is called holy (Mark 6:20), angels are called holy (Mark 8:38), prophets are called holy (Luke 1:70), even ground is called holy (Acts 7:33)! Surely the mother of our Lord, having found favor with God and being blessed among women, is holy. Would anyone say to Jesus, "hey, dude, your mom's lower than dirt"?
-----------
EDIT: I was referring to the mother part (mother of Lord = mother of God, because Jesus is God). As far as I am concerned, that she is holy is obvious. How could the mother of our Lord be lower than the ground upon which Moses stood?
--------
EDIT: Re: "I never said there is anything wrong with Mary but I believe nobody is Holy save the Lord himself and Jesus Christ."
Even though the Bible says otherwise?
--------
EDIT: Re: "It doesn't say he is holy."
Read Mark 6:20. http://bible.cc/mark/6-20.htm
I love you, too, Jayson.
-------
EDIT: Re: "When I am wrong I admit it."
Glad to hear it, Jayson!

This information is taken from the Catholic Encyclopaedia:
"It is commonly described as consisting of three parts. The first, "Hail (Mary) full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women", embodies the words used by the Angel Gabriel in saluting the Blessed Virgin (Luke, I, 28). The second, "and blessed is the fruit of thy womb (Jesus)", is borrowed from the Divinely inspired greeting of St. Elizabeth (Luke, I, 42)...Finally, the petition "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen," is stated by the official "Catechism of the Council of Trent" to have been framed by the Church itself."
May God bless you

Dictionary definition of "holy" - dedicated or devoted to the service of God, the church, or religion (such as a "holy man").
Luke 1:28 - "And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women."
Mary was "holy" in as much as she was dedicated to the service of God. The angel Gabriel told her "blessed art thou among women" & that quote is where the "Hail Mary" comes from.

I cannot help because my Latin Vulgate and my Greek translation use the word blessed. I do believe there is a difference.

Look at verse 47. Mary calls God her savior. Holy, perfect people don't need saviors.
I really don't know when this idea of calling Mary holy started but I know it isn't right.

Exactly! This is why I renounced the catholic religion due to their idol worship. I am now a born again Christian and follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ which I know is the truth.
