I would say it's a matter of personal preference. When ever Microsoft comes out with a new system, they try to improve on the current latest & greatest. So XP is more trouble free, has a massive driver data base compared to Win98, & has more bells 7 whistles. It's not what's best for your computer, it's what's best for the operator. Hope this was of some help.

If your computer has a pentium 4, then I would expect it to have all the other resouces to run XP, most important make sure you have at least 128Mb RAM, 64 is the minimum according to MS but it would be painfully slow. I run my machines at 512Mb RAM.
Remember Win 98 is now a discontinued product and there is no support for it any more.

XP is beautiful on P4. That's the cpu I'm running right now. Works great.
There is no reason to be having issues, nor going back to 98.

i would try and solve your current problem instead of changing operating systems. Windows does not support win 98 anymore. I do have a computer with win 98 which is older, but I'm always on my newer computer with xp on it.. hope that helps.

Install UBUNTU. It's a free, reliable and up to date operating system. You can multi boot it with your windows OS'.
Install 98, then XP and UBUNTU last.
