My kitty likes to lay in my oil heater. Not next to it, IN it. Right between the slats. She does this even when it's too hot for me to touch and before long, she's too hot to touch too.

I know that hair singes fairly easily, and she has an awful lot of it. Any chance that she may suddenly burst into flame?

I don't know if I could keep her out of it. She protests rather adamantly if she can't get to it (I think it's why she moved in with me). Anyhoo, a determined kitty is a bit difficult to stop.

An electric blanket would be far more dangerous than an oil heater. Oil heaters aren't supposed to get hot enough to cause burns. Electric blankets can.

Ok, so far none of you seem to be listening. This is an OIL heater. It does not get hot enough to burn skin, nor does it produce any fumes. If you don't know the sort of heater I'm talking about, please don't answer

Heating pads and electric blankets get hotter and are not thermostat controlled, as my oil heater is. I believe these options to be more dangerous, not less.

Keep her away from the heater. She'll only end up burning her skin.
She likes the heat so find a replacement. Maybe put a heating pad on a chair (under a blanket) so she can soak up the heat. And always monitor her around any hot equipment.
Is there any way that you could get a different heater? Aren't those the most dangerous ones?

No. But it is not safe for kitty to snuggle in the heater. Make a barrier to prevent kitty from getting into the slats. She can die if this continues.

I don't believe it at all to be safe. Try to cover it up so she can't get to it and perhaps invest in an electric blanket where she won't get burned but will stay warm and you control the temp. it sounds like she just likes to stay warm!!
