Maize is classified as moderately salt tolerant to salt tolerant depending on environment tested in. There is some work showing some genotypes are more salt tolerant than others.

I would say not...cow manure worked in and left as mulch is perfect..extreme temperatures are not so good for cross-fertilisation...otherwise water used wisely is all you need..apart from those insect critters you can get sometimes.....Don't know any species if that's what your are asking.Also you can grow beans or peas against the stalks as they get up..they help each other...

Not generally, but there are some transgenic methods to make it that way so that it can be grown in other climates.
