Why can't people stop talking in the cinema when they have gone there for the specific reason of watching a film ? And, why oh why do, what I presume are usually quite normal people feel they have to take up the table manners of a pig when eating pop corn ?

Does that annoy you like it does me ??

Eating like pigs, I can ignore. I can not ignore the gits who won't shut their gobs and watch the film!
I once went to a live performance with rather interesting special effects.
With everyone of them, some silly old thing with an annoying American accent exclaimed loudly "I wonder how they did that!!!!''
About the third time, I was one inch away from looking the several seats over and telling her to shut it, that she could find out later.
She did eventually shut up. I am not sure if someone else said something or she simply wound down like a demented cuckoo.

Really annoys me!!!! I always get people behind me giving a running commentary of the film. you are not at a f*cking football match, shut the f*ck up. And then there are the people that suck popcorn until it makes a nice squeaky sound.

I went to the cinema to see severance last year and the cinema was mostly empty, but for some reason a middle aged couple came and sat right next to me and my boyfriend. They did not obey the one seat rule and the cinema wasnt full!!!!!!! This is even more annoying - it was like being at the cinema with my aunt and uncle

I think Bumblebee might be on to something with her idea.
Also Trudiev made me laugh.
Yes it is annoying that people feel the need to eat 4 times their own body weight in popcorn everytime they see a film. Probably the same people who moan about how they are getting fat and need to go to the gym!

So in conclusion

Go to the cinema
Enjoy the film
Sit still
Shut up
Turn off your mobile
Don't leave until the film has ended

And most importantly...

Don't give away the ending to those people who are waiting to see the film, like Homer Simpson did with The Empire Strikes Back! "Wow, what an ending. Who would have thought that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father?!" LOL

Classic Simpsons moment.

I absolutely agree with everything you say and also with proofreadergirl who mentions restaurants - how I hate and detest having to listen to shouting and excessively loud and prolonged laughter when I am trying to eat! These people have apparently no awareness of others nor the close proximity in which they are seated. As for the cinema, well it is hardly surprising that people turn into pigs at the trough as soon as they walk through the door - we are as a nation obese as well as ill-mannered. Even worse, every time I go to the cinema now there is always a group of young lads who are either drunk or otherwise mentally incapacitated and they shout, catcall, argue, announce to the entire audience that they are 'dying for a pi**' and fire sweets at each other. Perhaps cinemas should consider increasing the security as I, for one, consider these people not just a threat to my peace of mind but also to my safety.

Thanks for raising this topic!

How annoying to have crisps bags rattling, pop corn munchers and sweet wrappers opening in you ear when you are trying to watch the film, or even worse in the theatre!. And come to think about there is ALWAYS one person whose mobile will go off and you can hear a loud whisper " can't talk now I am in the cinema" Well turn the damned thing off then!!!!!!

i've got by no potential understood the compulsion to consume collectively as watching videos, for me the cinema is with reference to the action picture no longer what empty energy i can consume collectively as I watch! I come from the era the place it grow to be a novelty to be waiting to purchase a hotdog interior the era - particular we had double charges then - a a ways cry from all the munching and chewing and clutter production that is going on now. eating isn't entertainment - sorry, i'm ranting back....

it does annoy me. people probably do that to annoy us. i mean, you're sat there just starting to get into the film, then suddenly..... the manners of a pig!!! its just pointless, its just the lack of respect of others. i was in a cinema once and someone was eating a packet of crisps like he was a vulture so i went up 2 him and asked politely if he could use his table manners, it worked wonders until i got kicked out 4 getting up an speaking 2 him bout the matter!!!!!!

Eating is part of going to the cinema, but it should be done considerately, and talking - if necessary - should be done in whispers. People seem to behave with less consideration than they used to, it's a symptom of the whole of society, shouting into their mobiles everywhere, arrogantly inflicting their conversations on us all, especially on trains etc. where we can't get away. People talk normally in libraries now, they wouldn't have dared to once.

It's the same in restaurants, the past few times I've eaten out it's been spoiled by some woman, sorry but it's true, talking at the top of her voice. They either don't care that they can be heard, or want to be heard by strangers. Pathetic, so childish. On my last cinema trip I couldn't get lost in the film because the kid behind me keep kicking my chair. I had to ask him to stop in the end, his father wasn't going to and they took no notice of me kept turning round, so I felt bad after that, but he did stop.

I don't know how to combat it - don't want to talk louder than them, or have to put up with it. Don't want to spend the whole film 'shushing' people either, but that's what used to happen if you spoke too loudly.

I have a plan - show half an hour of trailers or adverts that are clever/interesting (ie NOT for chewing gum or something equally boring) - anyone who has bought food must have finished it and their conversations by the time these are through. Then we can all enjoy the film in peace...

Sorry - I mean yes, it does annoy me.

a box of maltesers in the cinema or theatre has got to be the most annoying experience ever. I nearly shoved some up some womans nostrils once ;-)
