Copying to USB drives in Linux?

Question

When I copy files to my portable mp3 player or USB drive in OpenSUSE 10.2, the progress bar goes all the way to 100% and the dialog box disappears wayyyy before the files are done copying. Unless i watch the flashing LED on the drive itself, i have no way of knowing when the files are actually done copying. Is there a way to fix this to that the transfer and the progress bar are synchronized?

Is this USB 1.1 that is how 1.1 work, why don't you open a bash console and type cp ccommand in? That will give you better timing.
