just be yourself. mention something about wherever you are for exmaple, if your with people you dont know very well at a bar, talk about what music is playing in the background, how good of player they are at pool (8 ball), or old drunken stories.. if your with someone at work an want to know them better just ask them how their weekend was, or where they used to work at or something interesting that means they have to give off an actual answer rather than a yes or a no. good luck but its okay to be yourself just have confidence!!

ask questions, look interested in the replys and ask more questions on the answers you recieved and make reference to them,people will open up more willingly if you show you have listened and are keen.
