In that you don't use force against others, are honest, play by the rules, practice fair trade when dealing with others, earn what you need to get what you want out of life, etc. I mean a criminal, a liar, a bully, a thief, a beggar, can't have self-esteem can they? Is that where heavy drinking comes in?

Yeah, begging is immoral. I've heard it described as no different than theft, because a beggar takes people's money using guilt as a weapon. If you feel you've earned every penny you have and that that is the measure of your success, then you wouldn't have any guilt and so would never give money to a beggar.

Not really. The important element in self-esteem is for you to think in terms of how valuable you feel. How much do you need to listen to the opinions of others? Basically, it's self-love. If you seem comfortable with who you are, others will eventually be as well.

Self esteem and Ego aren't that far off from one another. Some of the worst people I've met have the biggest Egos...so no, I think as long as they believe they are not doing anything wrong, their self esteem can be just fine. The "heavy drinking" comes from not living an authentic life.They're not connected to anything, so they feel alone all the time. But do you think a "beggar" is necessarily "bad"?

To me the only way you get self-esteem is by being in the limelight and getting strokes from other people. It can be very short lived. Self-respect to me is knowing you are a child of God and that you are doing the very best that you can to be a blessing to those around you and being honorable. The bad guys get esteem from being the baddest...duh huh. No peace, joy or love there. Where there is life there is hope. God bless...Mmm

Some of the most positive, self-loving people I've met were bull-s**t, self-serving, con-artists. Obviously, you haven't spent much time in corporate America.

I always had self-esteem because I knew a godly son in Jesus who was proud of his Father and wanted every one else to be, but angels and mankind that did not had all in a mess. Jesus and his Father had plans to save all possible into a new heavens and a new earth. 2Pet.3:13;
