The absolute cheapest way would be to ship it..via actual ship...however, it could often take as long as two months to get your item to Hawaii by doing so..and the difference in price may not be worth it to you. So basically you're stuck with Air Mail. I have the same issue sending things to Guam..I had the option to send my computer through ship...$20..taking 2 months..or airmail for $70..i airmailed it..cus i'd rather have it in 1 1/2-2 weeks and pay the extra $$$ for it. GOOD LUCK!

It really depends on what the item is. Size and weight will make a difference. And of course how quickly you want to get it there.

Are we talking about furniture or something that can fit into and average box.

Let's start with the easiest.

Something that can fit into a box.

If you are talking about only shipping a few items boxes can be bought at places like
Staples
Home Depot
U-Haul rental locations.
These places have boxes in various sizes and can be bought one or more at a time. Not the cheapest but if you only need a few a better option.

If you are going to need many boxes I would go with

UPS
Fed Ex
DHL
are the most common shippers and they all have similar rates, and can get the item there depending on where you are from a week to overnight. Although overnight rates are very high.
I used to ship items from Boston to Newark, NJ by UPS. I shipped the items ground, cost $8.67 and it got there the next day by ground shipping.
If I shipped it overnight it would have cost $24.76.

Now if we have verylarge items there are again many options.
Some companies off only door to door service
where you have to get the item out the door of your home and the recieving party has to get the item into the home.

There are companies (North American Van Lines is one) that I believe have service where they will bring the item into the home.

It all depends on your needs and how much you want to spend. You can also just have the item sent from one airport to another and you are responsible for getting it to and from the airport.

Forward Air
http://www.forwardair.com/
is one such company.

There are hundreds of shipping companies
North American Van Lines,
ABL,
Fed Ex has a freight service.

Check out this site for info from many companies

It all depends on where you are located at. If you are overseas and in the military ship it by sam which comes by boat and takes a month. If your just the standard "joe" then look into matson companies and see what they would charge you to ship it over by their boat.
