It is all I seem to think about. When I wake up...what will I eat? When I get ready for bed...what should I eat? All day long, it just won't exit my mind. Then, I beat myself up about "over"eating, and promise myself I won't do it again, but can't seem to stop myself. It is getting out of control and I seriously think I need help, before I gain too much weight. I have gained 30 pounds this past year.

Well, it does sound like you have an 'addiction', but food is just the factor in an addiction. Since there are many kinds of addiction, you should be asking yourself WHY you're thinking about food so much. Are you under a lot of stress, pressure? Have you given up something where food fills that void (smoking, drinking, drugs?)
To a lot of people, food is mainly used for 'comfort' if something's going on in their lives. You need to find the source, and deal with that.
When I quit smoking, that's what I did - I turned to food. It took a while to figure out that I needed to do something else, and to understand that when I feel like I need to eat, I had to think about 'why' I wanted to eat, in the first place, and work on that. If it was because I was craving a cigarette, I had to use something else to keep my hands and mouth busy, so I bought sunflower seeds, instead. I chewed on straws, until I ran out, and then I started chewing on the lids of my pens.
What you should do is talk to your family doctor about this, and see what they suggest. They can provide you with some answers and other resources for you to utilize.

Yes, food addiction definitely exists. If you can, try to find daily activities that take your mind off food that are fun for you. Also, try to eat on a regular schedule, and avoid unplanned snacks between meals. There are a lot of programs out there that can help with meal planning, good luck!
