Yes. I think doctors, especially private practice, hand out this diagnosis like candy because they know they can get the insurance to pay for continul treatment. It is too hard for an insurance company to disclaim the doctors diagnosis of bipolar. So its the one the doctors use most.

I was diagnosed at 15 and now am 33. Up until 3 yrs ago I felt I was not bipolar even after stopping my meds dozens of tmes over the years to realize how bipoar I am. The last time I went off I went very manic then very low with in 24 hrs and nearly killed my self. I was thinking not so good thoughts of my son too. Bipolars are notoriuos for short memories and not taking thier medicines. They have even killed and commited suicide off thier meds. Before you decide to leap off the meds if you ar on any, think back to how you were before the medicines. Were there times you were giddy and talked alot and slept litlle, shopped more, ate more, had sex more, your thoughts went wild...then times were there was nothing but deep sadness and dread. I am not saying what you are, you and your doc need to decide.
