Firstly I wanted to say I'm sorry about your son's problem; I hope he's doing well.
At a tattoo shop they require you to fill out a medical form so it definitely will be an issue. But besides that, to check about health risks, I would ask a doctor and a tattoo artist.
A lot of doctors (mainly the older ones) frown upon tattoos and don't know everything about tattoos so you COULD get poor advice from a doctor. Same about the artist though, they probably don't know much about your son's condition so the answer could be a flat out no.
Good luck.

Yes it will hinder him from getting a tattoo.
One of my freinds is on warfarin and one of the things on the no-no list she was given when she first started was no tattoos.
Warfarin impedes the clotting process and therefore it will take a lot longer to stop bleeding after the tattoo as well as taking a lot longer to heal.
Your son should talk to either his doctor or a reputable tattoo artist before making the decision.
While I have tattoo's and love them I wouldn't take the risk. Especially given that he already has serious issues with the health of his heart.

Generally, tattoo artists are unwilling to work on someone on a blood thinner. Even the blood thinning effects of alcohol can be enough to cause a person to bleed excesively and inhibit coagulation. There may be a way to work around the blood thining effects, but generally speaking it will hinder him from getting a tattoo.
Additionally: They almost stopped my first tattoo before it was finished because I was losing too much plasma, and I don't have any bleeding issues at all.

that would be a good question for a doctor. but it depends on how it makes his blood. when he gets a cut, does he have trouble controlling the bleeding and getting it to clot? i would think that if he bleeds excessively he may have a hard time getting a tattoo because the ink wouldn't want to hold as well with all of the blood. i guess he could always try something small and see how it turns out if a doctor gives the okay ahead of time.

Forget the Warfarin, what about the chance of infection that spreads to the heart? I think that is wayyyy more important than getting a tattoo. With this history any major infection could kill him. I would definately say absolutely not. I know the art of tattoo is supposed to be sterile but so are lots of surgeries done in hospitals. Many patients get nosocomial infections every day from hospital surgeries. If you can't kill all the bugs in a sterile room, how can you hope to get a sterile tattoo?

I don't know if it will preclude him from it or not but it may not be the wisest course for him to take. Lets face it while taking coumadin he bleeds a lot if cut and what are they doing when you get a tattoo but sticking needles in you.

I think that it will....it's something that you may want to check with his doctor about though....and something that you might want to check with his tattoo artist about.
