I tried to install a new Panasonic radio. When I was almost done, two wires touched each other and i heard electricity pop. Now the factory nor the Panasonic CD player will work, any thoughts as to what may have happened?

Easy, you blew a fuse.

The XTerra has 2 fuseboxes. Check your owner's manual for the locations.

Go to your nearest auto parts store, and pick yourself up a fuse tester. Open the fuse panel on the car, which is located on the drivers side under the steering wheel on the left. and test each fuse to find out which one you fried. Replace the fuse. And before you attempt to make any modifications to your car that include electricity, always disconnect the battery.
