Jeddah is the oldest city in the Gulf countries. In one word I can say that life in Jeddah is "excellent". Standard of living is good and cost of living is average comparing with other GCC countries. If you are going on a work visa, the employers will provide you the accommodation or allowance.

The only thing is, the kingdom is following up Islamic rules and customs, so you will feel little stricter. But for Muslims it is a good place because the Holy places are close to Jeddah.

Good luck and welcome to Jeddah.

Most people consider it the best city in Saudi Arabia.

Just don't live in the areas that have water problems. That will soon be solved too, hopefully.

Cost of living is more than India maybe (depends on your lifestyle in India), but there are no taxes.

Jeddah is also quite secure, Saudi Arabia has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

If you have children you might want to live near the Indian schools, which are affiliated to CBSE. There are other International Schools too, but they are more to much more expensive.

The IISJ (International Indian School Jeddah) Girls' section is in the Aziziah district, while the Boys' section is in Rehaab, a few minutes drive away (about 4km).

The Aziziah district has a lot of Indian shops and restaurants, because of the large number of Indian families living in that area.

Manarat School is also a nice school, following the British curriculum (GCSE).

Jeddah has many recreational locations, the Corniche, amusement parks, gardens, and so on. Great for family life, and for singles.

If you eat chicken, try out the Al-Baik restaurants, Jeddah is famous for that.

I think cost of living in Jeddah is considered low in comparison to other GCC cities especially after the latest reduction in the fuel prices and considered to be the 2nd option for overseas workers after Dubai , It is v safe city and accommodating workers from all over the world

I don't know how the living cost compares to India, we have experienced it to be quite reasonable. It is a fairly secure country to live in, with a few security breaches every now and then, like the French family that got shot in the week on their way to Medina...
I guess you will find it enjoyable as there is a very large Indian community living here. Register yourself at your embassy so that they are aware of you and that you are able to receive security updates, news and current events from them. Some embassies even organize social functions for their citizens. I would advise you check out your future employer very well as there are not many labor and employment laws protecting employees, and they are very frequently taken advantage of.

Good Luck with your future and decisions.

Here's some site's designed for tourists, which may offer some feeling as to what costs are like.

The CIA fact book, strangely enough also provides a good insite into

There are several indexes around which compare living costs. The one provided below might prompt some thought on how to research this better.

I hope this all helps you, and good luck with your visit.
