They're dumb, it doesn't count. They just try to grow up too fast.

It is mostly puppy love that ends in strife.
Having a boyfriend or girlfriend in highschool is mostly the force of attraction at work. The two might not even "like" each other, and probably don't "love" each other, although they are definitely "attracted" to each other.
That said, High School is a dream world, a safe place. In High School, lunch is a dollar, teachers chase after you, and you are probably protected from outsiders. (Trespassing) Compared to the real world, this is a dream world.
That being said, most relationships made in High School are made because they see each other, because they HAVE to be in High School. The kids almost never realize that they don't need each other, they are just attracted to each other.
What I'm trying to say is that the kids don't know what a relationship is like, or is. So, the definition of boyfriend and girlfriend is different, or warped in High School.
Dating in High School is mostly a puppy love/crushing kind of thing. When they hit the real world, relationships forge in High School fall apart for a superabundance of reasons. From not being able to find the time to be together, to realizing they don't like each other, the reasons go on.

I honestly think that kids today are dating way too young, I have a friend who's daughter is 9 years old and has a bf. When I was that age I never wanted a serious relationship with a girl, I just wanted to be friends. I think that kids are growing up way too fast. I also think that the kids are finding out way too much about sex. I have heard about 10-15 year olds having sex. This is absolutely unexceptable. If these children knew how much time they would have to do these things, maybe they could just slow down and actually be children! From what I've heard their relationships are very sexually active, when I was that age my parents would have killed me if I did half the things that kids today do.

I am in 7th grade and over the summer between 6th and 7th I got my first girlfriend. A lot of other kids seem like they are growing up too fast at my school, but I take it slow.

They just talk on the phone and may hold hands and such. Not too much substance but a good learning experience about jealousy and other relationship matters.

Too serious if they have past holding hands!!!
I feel sorry for the ignorance and the parental neglect that drove them it to seek adult ways before they are wise enough to handle it all.
