I'm a guy who understands this and yes... there's no planning going on in his mind unless it's about being "buddies". If you see any chance of long-term and you ACTUALLY WANT IT, then play around a bit, but at least wait until date 8 to go all the way.
Things to look for to know his intentions:
1. How close your date spots are to his house. Closer is usually how pick-up artists work. That's not necessarily bad. You just need to make sure that you aren't just a number to him - if you care.
2. How much of his life he reveals. Too much is as bad as too little.
There are others, but those are the most obvious ones. Haha... don't pluck any flower petals while you think of him.

First off, How old are you? And is he behaving like a cop should? Maybe he is afraid that you will sleep with him and then not want anything from him after the fact. Or he isn't wanting anything from you after and is telling you that you shouldn't expect anything from him after. But if a man is interested in you and wants to be with you, he isn't going to say mean things to you. If he cares he will act like it. Just be careful and make sure you use protection not matter what!!!!!!

Talk to him and see what he wants. It seems like he wants a relationship, but people can be hard to read sometimes. I hope you're "legal", and that he's not taking advantage of you. But then again he just might be interested. He seemed a little nervous that you were gonna just take what you wanted and leave. Just see what he wants and go from there.

It's an odd question to ask a woman. Usually women ask it of men.
Why not point that out, and ask to understand how he got to the point that he's the one asking that?
Basic strategy: He's asking a question that's impossible to give a good answer to. But it's a worthy subject. So talk to him about the general subject.
