I dont care about mans religion or Jesus or Islam either. I also dont believe there is an old man or spirit waiting in heaven to judge mankind. So whats left? The universe created itself right? I agree. So through that reasoning you can deduce that atleast the universe IS God , which itself is a higher power than you.

Depends on your definition of god.

Also depends on if you're speaking of the Universe or the visible universe.

Can this be the real Jibba? How can an "agnostic" be "convinced"? It's a contradiction in terms.

So, the universe is bigger and more powerful than me? So is a city bus. Many boulders are older and heavier than me too. To claim that the universe "created itself" is a linguistic trick. It just means it happened. "Creation" requires consciousness and intentionality. An unconscious "higher power" is meaningless. Of what use would it be? The Sun seems to fit that definition. Even a nuclear power plant would. Should I be showing them some deference?

I'm already an agnostic, but you're pushing me the wrong way.

So just because it's bigger than me makes the universe a higher power? Or because it created itself?

Either way, there is no difference between the universe and me. We are composed of the same materials. The same forces move through us. When I die, all that I am will merge again with the rest of the universe. So really, the universe and I are identical. One in the same.

Hey I think you made me agnostic! In fact, no. Since there is no higher power than me I must be God!

That is so impressive! Atheist to divinity in under 5 minutes.

I'd be impressed if I wasn't omnipotent.

Heck, the earth itself alone is a higher power than I am. But it doesn't think. I cannot imagine that the universe "thinks." Or has self-awareness. From that stand point, we're a higher power. Nope, you've not convinced me that there's a God, nor a reasonably higher power. The universe is awesome and I revel in its size and grandeur, but I do the same for a giraffe.

No, because an agnostic (ie "without knowledge") by definition believes that the existence or essence of God or gods can't be proved one way or another, therefore if you convince me I can't claim agnosticism. I prefer to think of the without part more as encompassing than lack of, but that's just me.

By the way, I read something interesting about the nature of existence in theological debate. There's this great little loop-hole whereby in Arabic 'existence' ('wujud') derives from the root-word 'wajada', or 'he found'. Thus wujud becomes 'that which is findable', so to prove (God's) existence, all you have to do is show that he/it can be found (through meditation, study or whatever), not actually pinpoint a physical location or essence. I think that's really neat. Doesn't prove anything to me one way or another, but it's got chutzpah!

There is no higher power that is the point there doesn't have to be a simpler explanation than the big bang the reason there is religion is so that people can actually have faith in something and there is a simpler version of how we came to be

Unless you can invite God personally for Sunday dinner or a game of scrabble...there will be no convincing.

Can't do it.

If nature is god, then god has no consciousness, if god has noconsciousness then why are we calling it god?
