I have lost 140 lbs over the last 13 months.
Getting started is hard. You have to really want this, and be willing to put forth the effort. In my
case, I was diagnosed as a diabetic. With my experience as a Registered Nurse, I knew what THAT meant. So I took charge of the rest of my life.
I ate 1200 cal/day, in 3 meals of 400 cal each. No junk food, no snacking.
I exercised 20-30 min at a time, 2 times a day every day.
Not going tell you it was easy. At first, I missed the sweets like crazy. But after a month or so, that addiction was controlled.
I am now 9 lbs from my goal. I have started dating over the last month, and now have a wonderful boyfriend. Am I happy!!?? You don't even need to ask!!! Look great, feel great, and floating on a pink cloud.

I'm a year younger than you and have been there and done that. The hardest part is quitting smoking first cause that supresses appetite and after quitting you do gain weight. One of the very first things you want to do is stop drinking liquids that have calories. That means milk sodas and juices and whatever else. The main intake of calories is high calorie sodas juices and milk. Also alcohol is very high in calories. Drink lots and lots of water. If you a glass of water before each meal you wont be as hungry and wont eat as much. When you are starving and eat something and still feel starving wait 10 minutes before going to the fridge. It takes 10 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that you have eaten. If you are still starving after 10 minutes eat a small snack. Generally for me I found that eating a low carb diet and moderate exercise worked out great. Start out with something like walking a couple of blocks and gradually working your way up to something harder. If you start out with real hard cardio workouts you will be so sore the next day you wont be able to workout again for a couple of days let alone want to get out of bed. Also join a support group online with other people who are trying to lose weight. Having people who are going through the same thing you are helps A LOT.

First congratulate yourself for acknowledging your problem and trying to do something about it. Yes, it requires lots of dedication, but once it is a habit, it will be easy to continue. Big motivators? As soon as you start to lose weight, that will motivate you to lose more and also think about your health - extra weight increases your chance of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes....start making healthier choices and cut food portions by 20% at each meal. For exercise, start off walking a couple miles and gradually increase the mileage or run for a couple of minutes. Set a goal to run a race - like a 5k or something - and then train for it. The long term goal will also help with motivation. Try to avoid wheat/gluten - can be a huge factor with weight gain in some people. Eat sprouted grains or brown rice, vegetables, chicken, turkey, nuts/seeds...best of luck and keep a positive mind set.

1.) understand yourself, and what "Works for you"

I failed at diets and exercise because I listened to people when they told me I was doing it "wrong". It was too hard to do it "Right", so I just gave up all together. Their advice was based upon what worked for them- NOT ME!

What I found out is that something is better then nothing, and in the end, it's a little of something every day that will get you there.

As long as you are wise and give balance to everything- (like, when you only eat cabbage soup, or a "special" secret drink or something moronic like that.) do what works.

2.) Go to the doctor. What you may not know can hurt you. Who knows, maybe an underlying medical condition is assiting the weight gain (like a thyroid problem)

3.) keep trying. There may be a special approch or a combination of approches that will work for you. It all depends upon your personality. Pick an exercise that fits your personality. I like to watchmovies while running on the treadmill... but maybe staying in one place will make you crazy.

4.)understand why you fail. If you find yourself giving your self excuses, not to do it, make time to take down the barriers so you can't tell yourself "No, not today" anymore.

excuse:

My shins hurt
> bought new shoes

I dont' know if I am doing it right. If I can't do it right, why bother?
>bought a heart monitor so I know exactly when I am in heart range.
Too boreing to run
>bought a music player

Too cold/ hot/wet to run outside
>bought a treadmill

I watched all my movies in my collection (watch while on treadmill)
>rented one the day before my "running day" so I dont' have to worry about it day of.

It gets to the point when you sit on your bed and look at your workout shoes and know there is no more you can tell youself that will get you out of it, so just get it over already.

Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels. Keep your eye on the prize and keep thinking about the end result. It's hard to keep going with the small progress, but know that it all adds up and you will get there. If you want to live life to its fullest, you have to change your way of thinking to realize that that doesn't include eating whatever you want whenever you want. Living life to its fullest is more about being able to do things you enjoy. You will have more energy with this lifestyle change and it's totally worth it.

I've never been through it, but I do try to eat right and exercise. What works for me is reminding myself how disappointed I'll be in myself if I give in and have food I told myself I wouldn't eat and don't need. Also, if I made the choice to set the alarm and get up early to go to the gym, I tell myself it's worth it and I will be disappointed later in the day if I don't just get up and do it. i will feel better about myself if I go to they gym. It works for me!

if you want to loose weight you really need to have self control on foods and you need to exercise often. You have to go to the gym if you think you cannot exercise by your self and do not eat too much every night... Another thing supper before six pm is effective, try it...

-- well u can ask ur husband to support u to get in shape.
-- or ur any family member or co-worker can remind u of this
-- have a picture of a sexy (shaped body) lady in ur bathroom, so everytime u see her, you remind ur self that u wanted to look like her
-- stick some motivitational notes in ur house esp at those places which u see most of the time, like bed room, wardrobe, kitchen, computer etc.
-- buy a sexy dress, and see it daily, and remind urself to wear it one day when u back in shape.
-- buy some health related magzine, or visit such kinda websites to keep ur self motivitated
-- do wake early in morning, it help to manage day, and u will have plenty of time to give some time to ur self as well like excersice. because if u wake late, it will make u dull + u will hardly find time for excersice. (as u must b busy with kid as well)

these r some of the things u can try, and remember motivitation comes from inside, ...........so go and get ur objective :)
