Any group of people who recognizes Jesus Christ as savior and Lord are Christians. Unfortunately, they are also humans...and as such overthink things too much....which means they get all into we know Christ more than you type arguments which lead to all sorts of denominations (there are over 3200 now which is why I can say with conviction we have gotten carried away with ourselves). Thankfully, there is only one Bible and one True living God.....

There are two main categories in Christianity: Catholic and Protestant. The Catholic Church originated with Christ 2,000 years ago and remains today; the Protestant reformation occurred around the year 1500, which is where all the other denominations come from - Baptist, Pentecostal, Mormon, Lutheran, Anglican, etc. This 'splintering' among protestants is why we have the thousands of different denominations today. We pray, though, that all Christians unify in faith and love for each other and, most of all, for God.

God bless.

A christian is someone who has a relationship with God as Jesus, tho sometimes this gets misunderstood as just believing facts about God.
I have heard both Catholics and Protestants of various denominations talk about Catholics as if they are not Christians, but ultimately, only God knows whether someone has a relationship with Him or not. I don't think He really cares what denomination you are in. The point of any church is that it is easier to learn and grow spiritually in community.
however, Mormons (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) and Jehovah's Witnesses are not technically Christians-not believing that Jesus is God makes it difficult to have a relationship with Him as God.

Catholics do not pray to Mary as a god but rather a saint or spiritual leader. Because she is believed to be the mother of Jesus she is the mother of Catholics as well. They pray to her because she is the mother of Jesus basically like how someone will ask there preacher to pray with them. The Catholics were the first Christians there are not different. They are usually separated because they are the first and the others are perversions of there original doctrine. I'm an atheist who was raised in a Presbyterian family so I can tell you that I'm not an expert on other faiths. But from all I've read that seems to be the case.

I am a Baptist which would make me a Protestant. I believe that Catholics are Christians, I wish Catholics would lump all Protestants in when they say we think they are not. I don't think that Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians because they have added to the word of God. It clearly states that if you add to the word of God, the Bible that you are not a Christian.

Catholics are the first Christians, just that Martin Luther (who tended to contradict himself alot) got pissed at the church and so started protestantism and Luthernism. I do know what you mean though when you hear others saying Catholics and Christians. Also, Mormons are not exactly Christians, it is the way that they believe that heaven is several planes and worship the holy trinity as if it were almost 3 seperate gods.

I'm a former Catholic and even though I am now a non-denominational Christian and do not say prayers to Mary, I never believed Mary could forgive me of my sins @ any time, nor do any other Catholics I know. Anyone who believes that Jesus Christ died as the ultimate sacrifice for their sins and accepts this gift is considered a Christian and will go to heaven, even if they go to a church which teaches other false doctrine.

A Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ. A Christian believes that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God. A Christian believes that Jesus is God in the flesh and that He died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins and is the one and only way to God.

Catholics and Protestants claim to believe these statements. However, Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses don't.

Catholics are Christians. They were the group originally formed by Jesus. The other Protestant groups split off because the church was corrupt at that time. Protestants and Catholics are Christians.

good question. some get caught up in the rituals of the church more than in Christ. There is where the protestants came from. The followed martin Luther and because their own group. The catholics killed many of Christians because of this back when the split occurred.
