I have never done chin ups in my life. I am 14 years old. We are going to have a chin up or pull up (are they the same?) test in my PE class and people say that it is very hard. My teacher says that we should be able to do 5. I dont work out tor anything like that. Have you ever done chin ups? Are they easy? Any tips so as it will feel or be easier? I am about 5'3 weighing 120 lbs. I am not in the best shape but I have a pretty flat stomach though. Please help me! Thanks

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Usually they let you cheat on pullups in gym class (swinging and using momentum). Also, if you're not heavy, they'll be easier. I bet you'll see people all over the place with terrible form and they'll get away with it.

Doing true pullups is very difficult, but one of the best strengthening and shaping exercises out there. They have to be done correctly, though, in order to get the benifits out of them. People who say they do 20 or more are likely cheating.

If you're interested, different hand placement as well as whether your hands are facing in or out will vary the pullup. Keeping your hands closer together with palms facing toward you will be easier than a wider grip with palms facing outward.

The first time I ever did a chin up was during PE earlier this year, I'm not in the greatest shape either, but I found they were pretty easy if you stretched first (focus mainly on stretching the arms and shoulder area) somehow I managed to do 20 pullups and I weigh like 145. Good Luck to you!

Pull ups are traditionally the most feared exercises because they are difficult. In the Marines, you only have to do 3 to pass the test, do 20 and that's a hundred percent! Some people are just able to do pull ups easier because of their body composition and all the more power to them. However, don't be too surprised if you struggle with them. They are great for your body though, do them! Palms facing away from you are harder then palms facing towards you because palms towards you uses your biceps to help you more.

well they are about three or four times harder than push ups if you have pretty preportional strength. that is, if you can do 40 push up you should be able to do about 10 chin up or so. if your bicept and tricept strength is roughly preportional.
