Does anyone in the bible know where they talk about fornication. I've heard preachers all my life say that is sex before marriage (thats the definition) is a sin.

(My road map....) In Corinthians where Paul speaks about ridding yourself of sexual immorality, he was actually preaching from the old Jewish law sence that is all he had to preach from at the time (The Old Testament, The New Testament hadn't been put together yet). No where in Levitical law does is say sex before marriage is wrong. Or is it somewhere obscure that I haven't looked.

(Bigger picture) Has the church created a lie to me, or does someone have facts to back up the 'fornication' theory.

(I'm just trying to uncover the truths in the bible...please don't slam me)

People enjoy fornication, thus in the eyes of the church it is a bad thing. It is a control issue. Religion is not about salvation, it is about controlling the sheep.

The Greek word translated "fornication" occurs in the New Testament in Acts 15:20, 29; 1 Cor 7:2; 1 Thess 4:3; Rev 2:21, 9:21, 14:8, 17:2 & 4, 18:3.

Also, the Old Testament continues to be significant for Christians today. And so if Paul was preaching from the OT Law, it would not lessen the significance of what he was saying. But this is a moot point since Paul's preaching is based primarily on the teaching of the apostles.

Fornication means sex or sexual activity "outside of marriage" not nescessarily before marriage. That means any sexual activity outside of marriage is wrong. It also means you can even commit fornication when you are married, if you are messing with one you are not married to. The Bible speaks of this in several places and the church has not lied to you. God likens fornication with serving idols and commiting adultery and that is clearly defined in the Levitical law under the 10 commandments. Also, the word that God used in the Levitical law to describe this type of activity was "whoredom or whoring" It eventually became the term fornication later on in scripture, with the development modern language That is why your studies on the word Fornication alone has not given you much insight. Hope that helps.

The only place I immediately see with the word fornications in the Old Testament is in 2 Kings 9:22 where it talks about the fornications of Jezebel.

Well it's not a lie. Jesus gave the church the power to bind and loose sin. But I believe Paul was fairly specific about fornication being one of the sins that'll keep people out of Heaven.

Thou shall not commit adultry.

I think this covers any and all sex outside of holy matrimony.

I don't believe any of the rhetoric, mind you. I just needed some more thumbs D0w.

It's the commandment that says "Thou shalt not commit adultery." (So you should be able to look that up in Exodus)

Adultery was sex outside of your marriage.

Matthew 5

32 But I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, excepting for the cause of fornication, maketh her to commit adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.

2 Matthew 19

9 And I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.

41 You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God.

4 Acts Of Apostles 15

20 But that we write unto them, that they refrain themselves from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

5 Acts Of Apostles 15

29 That you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which things keeping yourselves, you shall do well. Fare ye well.

6 Acts Of Apostles 21

25 But as touching the Gentiles that believe, we have written, decreeing that they should only refrain themselves from that which has been offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangles, and from fornication.

7 Romans 1

29 Being filled with all iniquity, malice, fornication, avarice, wickedness, full of envy, murder, contention, deceit, malignity, whisperers,

8 1 Corinthians 5

1 It is absolutely heard, that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as the like is not among the heathens; that one should have his father's wife.

9 1 Corinthians 6

13 Meat for the belly, and the belly for the meats; but God shall destroy both it and them: but the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

10 1 Corinthians 6

18 Fly fornication. Every sin that a man doth, is without the body; but he that committeth fornication, sinneth against his own body.

14 Galatians 5

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, immodesty, luxury,

15 Ephesians 5

3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not so much as be named among you, as becometh saints:

16 Colossians 3

5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, lust, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is the service of idols.

17 1 Thessalonians 4

3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that you should abstain from fornication;

18 Jude 1

7 As Sodom and Gomorrha, and the neighbouring cities, in like manner, having given themselves to fornication, and going after other flesh, were made an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

all those passages mention fornication though fornication really means immoral sex not nessecarily pre-maritial but you can find in those that totally imply pre-maritial sex. Plus Jesus said:

Matthew 5

28 But I say to you, that whosoever shall look on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart.

adultery= sex outside of marriage

just lusting after someone is considered immoral/sinful as sinful as adultery and pre-maritial sex hits the bucket.

main point is the church has done it's math don't doubt it if you truly believe in the bible you'll trust the church (the foundation.)
