I saw an interesting story on my local news but I did not catch it all so I want to throw this question out there , If a family has an obese child (minor)should the family be brought up on child abuse charges , as long as it can be proven that the child does not have some type of medical disorder that causes his or her obesity , What do you think , serious answers only .
Thank You .

I have an overweight child. She's not fat just chunky. She loves to eat. Anything and everything she can get her hands on. How ever if she's in snack mode I will not let her eat chips and soda or cookie just because. She will eat something healthy like yogurt and fruit. Now ignorant parents who don't understand the risks of giving your child crap to eat, should be educated instead of being punished. I saw the little boy and that was a riduculous weight for him. His mother was sending him to an early grave. They both need help. Mentally and physically. She probably turned to food for comfort and since he's right there with her she gave him the same comfort. Sad story.

Of course NOT ! There are many factors that contribute to obesity......many of which go undiagnosed in children because everyone is so quick to accuse the parents of simply overfeeding/ underexercizing their child. About 25 % of the population is genetically predisposed to obesity....and since the " FAT" gene has not been identified.....who is to say which kids have " legitimate " weight issues and which ones dont.

parental neglect is very prevalent. most naturally thin parents who lead physically active lives and eat a balanced diet rarely have an obese child.
if the child is surrounded by obese family members, a kitchen full of processed foods, and few healthy alternatives, one must question the decisions of the parents.

I saw that news report. Yeh I reckon they should be. Children eat what their parents give them. Its not up to them. Its also up to the parents to give the child opportunity to exercise. The parents definately need to clean up their act. I wouldn't say take the child away, but give the parents a stern warning.
