my tooth does have a crown on it, and it always seem to bother me for a couple years. Now it to the point where it hurts to push on it, and the gum above the tooth, its my top molar by the way, has been really sore, and the tooth feels like it infected. I have taken antibiotics and the problem still remains. It makes me feel sickly and my question is can this tooth possibly have an abcess? Or could the tooth be infected? I have an appt to have it extracted next week. I am just tired of dealing with the discomfort. Professional answers would be appreciated. If you can fill me on what might be going on with this tooth. ty, :)

HELLO,
THE UPPER FIRST MOLAR HAS ABOUT A 60% CHANCE OF HAVING A FOURTH CANAL, THE SECOND MESIO-BUCCAL CANAL.THIS MAY BE MISSED THE FIRST TIME THE ROOT CANAL IS DONE.
BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO EXTRACT THIS TOOTH EXTRACTED CONSULT WITH AN ENDODONTIST TO SEE IF THIS CANAL WAS MISSED.
I UNDERSTAND YOUR FRUSTRATION COMPLETELY, BUT YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF TO RULE OUT ALL POSSIBILITIES. GOOD LUCK. :-)

Yes, your tooth is probably reinfected. Dentists will not tell you that there are hundreds of miles of microscopic tubes in your teeth where bacteria flourish and mutate into a deadlier form after a root canal is performed and a crown seals the tooth. There's a great book called "The Root Canal Coverup" by a dentist that tells the truth. I'm fighting the same problem now and if I can't solve it I will have it removed. But I am having good luck with this. Prepare a potatoe pultice (scrape the skin off a potatoe and then scrape the layer just under the skin. Mash this up with a garlic press and add a pinch of cayene and a drop or 2 of clove oil(if the tooth is loose add a little alum. It works great to tighten and strengthen a loose tooth) pack this between your cheek and the gum just below the tooth for 30 or 40 minutes. This will draw out the poisons. Also, a couple of times a day after brushing swish with hydrogen peroxide. This will also help kill it. And finally, inbetween, massage the gums with an herbal mouthwash which contains prickly ash bark (called "tooth ache bark" by the American Indians)goes by tradename Ipsadent.

Don't jump into the extraction just yet, I recently had a root canal done and there was a fourth canal which could be the factor in your case. I went to an endodontist which is a root canal specialist to get it done because the doctor I work for practices general dentistry and we are not equipped for such cases. Make an appointment with an endodontist to find out if the tooth is saveable.

it could be a recurrent infection of the tooth or it could be 3rd molar is trying to push your tooth that has a crown which makes it more sensitive, i cant really tell unless i look in your xray.anyways before you consider having your tooth pulled ask your dentist if they can refer you to an endodontist which is a root canal specialist, this way you have a 2nd opinion for them if your tooth is still salvageable or needs to say goodbye. you can go there and ask your concerns. i personally would do that first before doing that last resort which is pulling that out. endodontist can do the retreatment though its costly but still the best option for me. the only thing here on this question and answer program of yahoo when it comes to this case, it is better to see an xray that way we can really diagnosed whats going on. you can also check your local directory for an endodontist in your area and ask for a 2nd opinion that way you dont regret anything if worst came to worst. at least you had another opinion by a specialist other than dentist. till here good luck and take care..

If you have an abscess they can see it on an xray. Antibiotics does not solve the problem. It will help get the infection under control. But if you don't get it taken care of infection comes back. I would talk to the dentist and see if ext is the only option. Sometimes tooth can be saved. Good Luck!!
