why would you encourage poor eatting habits? if her doctor says there is a problem, then worry... other than that? she has a good metabolism and that is all!
I have a ten yr old... she was so tiny.... at five she WORE size 2T!?! she is now in size twelve moving up to fourteens.... in other words? she hit her spurts.... they all do...
DO NOT FEED "more" if you are concerned about her not having enough nutrients, supplement with pediasure.... offering all the same healthy snacks, mealtime offerings but one or two meals have a pediasure drink instead of milk...all the minerals and vitamins, appetizing to the picky eater, and not much more in calories... and no unhealthy eating habits being put in front of her....biggest thing to remember, any habits started now will follow thru her life... anything artery clogging now (peanuts, avocados<- in excess... etc.) things high in protein does not always mean good to eat a lot of..... and balance at that age of carbs to go with it..... or they may build nice muscle.... only to need that protein to burn while playing, working....
the supplementing I have done that with my son who is three... he was born with a hole in his heart and on those charts that show what percentage the baby/child is; he has always been negative 30% and his dr. has always said do not worry...at three he is finally up, at 0% only.... but still.... drs always say it is not the numbers but the consistency... so, as long as a child grows at the same rate about....as from birth? that child is FINE, HEALTHY.... at the same time, I have a four yr old daughter who is just perfect (for health, size she is small) I offered her the same diet... she did not gain more because of it.... but I felt better knowing she got the minerals, vitamins...... along with her daily vitamin... so I knew she is just small.... in other words, she did not gain due to pediasure.... even though my son did.....
remember each child is different... does not just apply to milestones of babies.... but growth rates too!!
please continue to give your daughter the best choices... ask her dr if you are concerned..... but do not over feed her as that one person answered..... the health issues that might/could/would plague her later are not worth her "looking" bigger now....
good luck
hope this helps....

My daughter is going to be six in three months and she just started wearing a 5T because of her height. I still have to get adjustable pants because she has such a small waist. She doesn't even weigh 40 pounds yet! She is in the 25% percentile in height and weight. BUT... I offer her nutritious meals at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. (She is not a big eater.) I make snacks for her whenever she asks for them. She is picky with certain meals, and I try to cater to her likes and dislikes. I do everything I can! My best answer for you is that as long as the doctor feels she is growing in height and weight and is not concerned, then you should not be concerned either. You know you are doing everything you can for her. All kids are different. Look at genetics too! I am 5'3, my husband is 6'0, all of his relatives are shorter than 4'11! My other daughter is in the 90% percentile and we do all the same things for her!

I had a little one this is what the doctors told me to do.
They told me to always have finger foods and healthy snacks around for her to eat.
They had me make her Yogurt smoothies good for her and depending on what you put in it gave her extra calories.
I did all this still did not put weight on her she was thin until she hit the age of 10 she puberty yeah
you wouldn't believe the change.
I really wouldn't worry about it as long as she is eating and remember a stomach is only as big as the persons fist so we think they aren't getting enough but really they are.
Just make sure she has healthy choices don't give her a bunch of junk food.
You could add carbs to her diet if you are really worried and like I said healthy snacks like yogurt and fruit

Don't worry. As long as she is eating healthy - fruits and veggies and not stocking up on sugar she's fine. Girls are normall smaller, but most of them make up for it as they hit puberty. I was the same way.
If you force her to eat she will develop unhealthy eating habits. They'll be harder to break later on and cause her much pain. Possibly even overeating...which can lead to a lot of things.
It's no big deal :))) Five year olds love dips. I'd just make sure she's getting fresh carrot, celery, pepper strips with a low fat dip (you can buy the ranch powder and add low fat sour cream or even yoghurt). Even apples with yogurt (strawberry is my fave) or peanut butter. Just some ideas :))

If her doctor says she healthy I wouldn't worry about the weight. All children seems to hit spurts-they won't eat at all then tomorrow won't stop! Some are just naturally small.

I had a friend and her daughter was very small too. Does your daughter snore when she sleeps. If she does her tonsils and adenoids may need to be removed. My friend had her daughters tonsils and adenoids removed. After that she went from thirty lbs to fifty lbs in six months and grew three inches.

i agree that some kids are just small...
i wouldnt look to pedisure or anything like that though, try feeding her more foods with good fats: avocados, nuts, eggs, butter, olive oil (raw), cheese, yogurt..
cod liver oil is also a good supplment. you can get strawberry flavored from nordic naturals and mix it with plain yogurt and she wont even notice. (thats how i take cod liver oil!)

Maybe your genetic make up is that way.But consult a physician.Get her checked for worm manifestation. And give her protein rich food. But do consult a doc.
