First of all, don't have sex....(check the law in your state). Second, a 16 year old can be more mature but his need for you to promise him to never leave is an immature attitude. Age difference is a big deal if it causes problems you cannot handle. Do you want to stay with him or is his pressure a problem?

Your age difference could be a big deal in some States because 18 is considered adult and 16 is not. The law considers 18 as being an adult and 16 being a juvenile. So you need to discuss this with your parents to find out what the legalities are to protect yourself. I would wait until he was older if I were you, I don't care how mature he may appear. If you like him that much wait until he is legal. Do you recall the story of a Teacher who was going with a juvenile and all of the trouble that she got into, well she thought that he was mature for his age also.

Well, I was 16 when I first started dating my fiancee 3 years ago. But they say men's maturity levels develop slower than women's. It's great if you two get along, but now you are in 2 different stages of life. He's still in high school, you're getting ready to graduate (and possibly go off to college?) or enter the work force. It didn't make a difference to us that I was a junior while he was working 40 hours a week as a construction worker. It just really depends on his experience and maturity, really. I don't know what the age limits are in your state.

No not really....
But i find it kinda weird....I'm 18 my girlfriend is 16 nobody ever says anything because everyone is comfortable with seeing a younger woman with an older man and not the other way around.....If you really like this guy then you shouldn't care what other people have to say.
Do what you gotta do!!
Good Luck

no it's not. truly. 2 years is not that great.
as for reference, a couple of famous twosomes come in mind: demi and ashton & justin and cameron. the age difference between each pair is more than the two you are stressing on.
so, chill. it's fine.

if you love him, you love him. the age difference is no issue at all, how old are your parents? my parents are 8 years apart. the only reason people say anything is because of how proportionate it is to your age. nobody would say anything if you were 24 and he were 22.
