In the Old Testament days, the term "virgin" was a term for young women. Just like today when we call a person a "lady" it does not mean she is of noble birth or of aristocracy.

Why would anyone believe Mary was technically a virgin?

If Jesus never said it, then why would you believe others who said it? Who inspected Mary and witnessed that she was a technical virgin, or were the authors simply saying that Mary was a young woman when she gave birth to Jesus?

Whether Mary was or was not a technical virgin, how would that effect your faith in and belief in Jesus' teachings? To believe in Jesus is to believe his words, not the words of others?

"To believe in Jesus is to believe his words, not the words of others"

And that is why personal faith is better than public religion.

I always took "virgin" meaning young lady the same way "maid" meant young lady--it's assumed you're a virgin, because you're not old enough to have been with a man. According to the bible, Mary was pretty young; she probably was a virgin.

Before some guy knocked her up and she got to be the first and only girl to use the "It was IMMACULATE" excuse.

I heard it was a mistranslation of 'maiden' or 'single', as in not married yet. Either way, more than one of the gospels revels in that side of the story, throwing in night visions and Archangels to add to the whole implausible drama.
Consider how mainstream, christian society has behaved towards unmarried mothers over the centuries, yet those same stonethrowers are willing to believe in Mary's virgin birth!
Jesus, like most kids, probably didn't really want to talk about his early childhood situation. That's how gossip starts!

Mary stated to the angel: " How could this be since I know no man" ... hmm she herself stated she was a virgin, and even though your right about how isaiahs prophecy can be interpreted to young lady the word Sign in the text means miracle and behold meaning in astounishment why would it be a miracle that a normal women would birth a child?

Jesus may or may not have ever 'said' that. I doubt that every single conversation that Jesus had with the apostles was written down.

But seriously, Jesus is never quoted in the bible as saying he was born from a virgin. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John wrote that, not Jesus.

Well, think about it, no one was ever there to see that Adam and Eve were real, and no one alive today was there during Noah's flood. It's all just faith. It was written after each of the events described in the Bible at different times, except for the prophecies, of course.

He did not and, of course he was not.
She was no longer a virgin after her encounter with Gabriel that got her pregnant. Joseph, a good guy, decided to raise the child as his own and to spare Mary from lapidation.

Isaiah 7:14. Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son and his name shall be called Emmanuel.

How many sons speak of their mother's condition? Jesus was very discreet. Also: there are many things that Jesus said and did that weren't written down...

You have the original meaning correct....with that said wouldn't it also imply that he was illegitimate? And within that belief system it's a sin to have an illegitimate child, so how is it then that being born from sin made him the one and only son of God?

According to the Quran, the infant Jesus (pbuh) did say that his mother was guilty of no sin. Nobody believed it until the infant spoke on her behalf - they were prepared to stone her to death for adultery.
