Set a goal for the day. Then, set a timer for an hour. Do whatever it is you need to concentrate on for an hour (a timer is a must to stay concentrated). Then, take a 10 min. break (set a timer for this, too). Keep doing this until you are done.

Find a space in the house that is relatively quiet and free of distractions - a den or library that is removed from the rest of the house. Make sure it has good lighting and comfortable furniture. And, believe it or not, classical music is a great help for concentration when played at a low volume - not ROCK'N'ROLL - not RAP - not COUNTRY - not GOSPEL or SOUTHERN GOSPEL - not OPERA(heaven forbid!) - just plain old classical music.

occupy your mind with other things besides homework. i find if you think about doing it, dreading it, worrying about it so much you end up being distracted when you go to do it. also if you haven't had a chance to detox. Make sure you do other stuff too - hang out with friends, eat, workout, watch tv. Then spend time you have set aside to do homework.

I know this sounds flaky, but I have had students who are helped quite a bit by chewing gum while they read or study.
