If you haven't really gone to church, and you don't know what it means to be Catholic, you should consider the possiblity that maybe you're not Catholic.
Being a religion isn't like being a race or ethnicity: it's a choice in beliefs. Learn about Catholicism and see if you choose to believe the same things. If so, then you're Catholic and you won't have doubts about what you need to do to be "good". If you just flail around trying to meet up to some anonymous standard of a label, you'll just end up frustrated and angry.

Learn as much about the Catholic Faith as you can.
For starters, start going to weekly mass, purchase and read a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Start by devoting yourself to prayer. Get close to Jesus. Next, learn what He teaches. Read the new testament and read the catechism. This will teach you your faith. Look up the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church; also United States Catechism for Adults. These are condensed, easier to read versions. Here's a great site too: www.catholic.com.
God bless.

By reading more book about Martin Luther and discussing them in length with your local priest during confession. That will win you points for certain. Yet, not enough in my opinion.. Also, rent the Di Vinchi Code and ask several questions afterwards about Opus Dui... Hmm.. Still not enough... Also mention, that you thought Constantine was an excellent ambassador to the formal pairing of Church and State. Now that's how you could start in becoming a better catholic girl.

Start to read the Lives of the Saints. I think you would love St. Therese' The Story of a Soul. It is wonderful. She has also a book called The Little Way. You need to go to confession and get back to Church though. If you have never been to Confession and Holy Communion you need to see about going to classes so you can. There is nothing like receiving Jesus in Holy Communion. Read,Read, Read though. Get a copy of The Catechism too and read that. Really study what a gold mine we have in our Church. You will be so proud of her.
