My friends has these white things in her hair. They stick to the hair. (it's wrapped around the hair) I thought it was nits but then they were all white and if they all hatched then she should have aldult lice. I looked but she doesn't. She has a very dry scalp. I'm not sure if they are nits or dandruff.... Please help
Discribe how a nit would look and how you can tell the difference between nits and dandruff. Thanks

Nits will not come off the hair just by combing through them or trying to brush them off. Dandruff can be oily dandruff and stick to the hair strand more, but will come off fairly easy. If she has had eggs that have hatched, then she probably has adult lice you can spot. The lighter her hair is the harder it will be to see. You need to go through her hair in small 1/8 inch sections to examine her scalp. If there are no adult lice present, more than likely you are dealing with a case of dandruff. If you question it at all consult a physician. Trust me, i work at a cosmetology school, and if u see lice u will know.

Nits wrap around the hair and will not move or slide off of the hair shaft. They are eggs waiting to hatch basically. When they do and you have lice, they are dark in color and move. You will see them when you part the hair. They will move quickly. Best thing to do is go to the store and buy Nix. It is put through the hair and then you use a comb that comes with the stuff and comb them out. You might have to do it more then once. Dandruff will be shaped different and will move off of the hair. Good luck to you.

Well...nits move. If you look at the root of the hair and see movement...it's probably lice. Dandruff is just flakes, just dead skin cells that have shed. If she washes her hair and still has white things in her hair it's probably lice. They have shampoo for lice at the supermarket. It's called Nix.

And if in doubt, the doctor can always tell for sure.

tell her to get the nix to be on the safe side. it won't hurt and throw out all her combs and brushes and buy new ones.

then if it is dandruff she will know and if it's lice she will get rid of them.

wash everything in bleach that she lays her head on as well.

i had lice when i was little, but it was never completely white. it was more of a off-white. and lice will not move around as much as dandruff does

Go to any hairdresser, and they can look through it and make sure!
