Well, I'm 18 and I want to buy a car, but the whole process is a bit confusing to me. So, I'll make up a scenario. You're selling a car for $1000. I have the $1000. Explain everything in detail, meaning any paperwork, necessary processes, etc. In short, put it so even a stupid person like myself could even understand haha.

The easiest way is to get a cashiers check for the $1000 or if you feel comfortable, go in cash. This is after you decided to purchase the car of course. The owner of the car should give you the title, signed on the back as the seller, a bill of sale for the amount of the car, and if your state has emissions, a passing emissions test. Some states require that the title be notarized, if this is the case the easiest way is to go to a bank, which normally is free or just a few dollars. NOW if their is a lien on the car, which hopefully there isn't if it is only $1000, the bank has to release the lien on the title.
