From UK to USA is 001 then the full number. From USA to UK is 011 44, then remove the initial zero from the UK area code and dial the rest of the number.

0044. So I'm wrong! You have to dial the international exit code first. Did you know that the international entry code for Russia (formerly the Soviet Union) is 007. When Ian Flemming started writing the James Bond books did he take the code 007 from this, or did som wit take the code for SU from Ian Flemming? A nice variation on the chicken and the egg question.

0-114 then the specific area code for the place you are trying to call. My husband is Brittish, and we call my in-laws at least once a week. For them specifically in Bristol, the full area code is: 0-114-4117, then their specific 7-digit phone number.
