NO YOU DON'T THROW WATER IN IT'S FACE!!!!!
Cats have wonderful instincts when it comes to humans ( and other critters). Usually they aren't wrong in their opinions of humans.
For whatever reason this cat has CHOSEN you. Don't do anything different with respect to being aloof or distant to it. When the cat is on your lap, it is being territorial. It does not want interference from the other humans. Absolutely normal behavior for a predatory animal. They can be quite possesive. You may be showering more actual physical attention on it, so it is eating it up whereas the grandparents are just allowing it's presence without a great deal of affection.
For whatever reason this cat may not be bonding with the grandparents. Could be an age factor (their ages), could be how it has been treated when you are not present, could be the cat is being precocious when in your presence. You could try sitting right next to the grandparents and "share" the lap time. Gradually shifting affection from you to the grandparent.
Cats are truly mysterious creatures. While behavior is somewhat predictable, cats do like to remain a little elusive.
Good luck.

Here is a step-by-step idea:
# 1 Find out what your cat likes. Does your cat like a good chin scratch, a belly rub? Make sure you don't do what your cat doesn't like, for example, if it is not a lap cat, let it be.
# 2 Don't pick up your cat very often. Most cats do not like being held. Just because your cat is smaller than you doesn't mean that you can treat it like a doll. However, do pet it when it's around, but not excessively, my cat can get mad when that happens, because sometimes they are in a bad mood and don't want a petting.
# 3 Give treats. When cats realize you can be a source of good things, they are more likely to be nice to you.
# 4 If your cat still is mean and scratches, first see if it is just being playful; cats sometimes forget that those things on the end of their toes are vicious daggers. Also it could be a sign of a medical problem, and if you suspect that, take it to the vet.
Tips:
****** If you get down on your knees, you are a lot less threatening to a cat, because you are near it's size.
******If possible let the cat approach you first. Put out your hand and let it sniff it before approaching it, a sign of it accepting you is it will rub against your hand. This is how a cat gives hugs.
****** In the summer months, your cat will get hot. Make sure to keep it cool by putting on a fan or even letting it play with an ice cube. In my house there are stones on the floor in one area that my cat enjoys sleeping on.
****** Try not to wake the cat up to play with it. Cats sleep incredible more that humans, and they are supposed to. Also, sometimes some cats enjoy being alone more than with humans, in which case you should tend to not always be around your cat. Let him/her has its space.
Hope that will help you, and good luck!

Cats are really finicky but somehow she is attached to you. Have you done anything special to have her attache herself to you? This cat if it really is hurting its owners needs some behaviour modification..there are animal specialist who do this. If it is just a passing fancy then try not to encourage the cat. When it behaves badly i.e. you have it sit on your lap, owner approaches, and it hisses etc. put the cat down and say no and I will not be your friend again till you behave and walk away. It is a form of behavious modification. Cats are often attracted to certain people and we do not really know why but the only other solution would be for you to take the cat but beware of others coming around as it may bet a bit "hissy' with them I guess that is where the term "hissy fit comes from"

Since your grandparents cat doesn't seem to like them as much as you, I would ask them if they wouldn't mind letting you take her home with you. Maybe she would be happier with you.
She is probably normal with your grandparents when you are not around. Or she might just be mopey and sad when you aren't there. I would ask some questions and if your grandparents aren't happy with her then I would try to take her home with me. Sounds like she has an attachment with you and you should try your best to make her happy.
Good Luck! :-)

I don't know. Have your grandparents seemed to notice that she does this? She obviously feels possesive of you for some reason. If it continues this way, you might want to talk to them about it. The last thing you want is for her to attack them for any reason. Good luck!
