They don't have much fat if any..
They do contain a good amount of sugar and are empty calories.
Which means you aren't getting any nutrition from them.

Yes.
Anything that's high in refined sugar and low in fiber and nutritional value causes confusion in your system. You'll pump out a lot of insulin to deal with the sugar, then a little while later you'll be in a negative energy state, craving still more sugar. This sets up an addictive cycle that can lead to overweight, metabolic syndrome, and nutritional deficiencies. The nutritional deficiencies trigger more cravings, which means more marshmallows, etc.
If you're hooked on marshmallows or any other sort of sweet bit, best to treat it as any other bad habit. Satisfy sweet cravings with fruits, and eventually they'll tame down.
PS -- the marshmallow diet? that's a new one on me! I'll have to look it up, you learn something new every day.

All food just about eaten to excess will make you fat!!
So the secret is to eat normal healthy food &
ONLY HAVE A TREAT OF ANY KIND EVERY 2 WEEKS
not every week unless its a tiny treat
eat like a Sumo Wrestler ( huge meals ) & you will grow like one

Yes. They are sugar and egg whites with a little cornstarch thrown in to keep them from sticking together. Lots of empty calories.

They are basically sugar, and do not have much fat content. However, too much sugar consumption and inactivity may lead to build-up of fat because you wouldn't be burning off the calories.
