I use a chiropractor who uses an activator and a massage therapist. Different reason, was nearly in the same boat.

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

Back pain can result from many medical situations, including constipation. When a person becomes constipated, it basically means accumulated waste has led to an impacted colon. In more severe cases, the bowels swell to the point where they're actually pressing against nerves in the lower back. As the nerves are compressed, they send shooting pains and spasms throughout the lower back area and occasionally down the legs as well.

On the other end of the spectrum, individuals suffering from back pain are in many cases prescribed codeine to help with pain management. Codeine is a painkilling narcotic that can also unfortunately cause constipation as one of its side effects.

Chronic pain is generally as frustrating to your doctor as it may seem to you. Have you been determined to be disabled legally? Was it determined to have been as a result of the spinal block treatment? I am assuming by your question that the doctor cannot find a reason for or is not able to determine why you have lower back pain. Has your doctor referred you to a specialist? You are aware that there are pain management specialists that treat pain such as yours. They normally will order particular tests and or xrays. Lab work to be certain your function is running smoothly. Treatment may i nclude anagesics, sometimes narcotics, alternative treatment such as physical therapy, relaxation techniques, along with whatever is deemed neccessary. If you try something and it doesnot seem to help, be honest and let your doctor be aware of your condition. If you need a referral, ask your primary care doctor for help. If not check with hospital registries or even your insurance company will help you find a doctor.

If you doctor can't fix it, try alternative methods.

Accupuncture is pretty effective with nerve and muscular pain reduction. Find an accupuncturist in your area (who practices traditional accupuncture - not electrical stimulation) and see if he/she can help you.

I'm currently using accupuncture to relieve my back pain - it's beginning to work. I am already feeling a significant reduction of pain. You need to get this accupuncture treatment at least once a week for a few weeks.

By the way, I've tried many different therapies - chiropractic, physical therapy, and massage therapy. They all help, but I still have this chronic pain in the back, so I'm trying accupuncture. So far, so good.
