I know its mainly due to stress. Ive had it for 4 days now. Marriage on the rocks, husband only a husband when he wants to be, son going through terrible two's, 8 mo old daughter throwing fits, seems as though shes mocking her brother, husband thinking we live in a picture perfect world and the house should be spotless and dinner on the stove before he gets home, which doesn't happen, he can keep dreaming...ok I'm going into detail, but it just keeps getting worse and now I have this horrible headache. I'd go lay down but the kids need me and there is no one to help me. I just need to relieve this pain in my head and I'll be better at dealing with everything else. How can I do that? Meds do not help.

some anti depressants can help tension headaches, but you have to go to your dr. for a prescription. i have suffered with them on and off for almost 10 years and i know how painful they can get. the only relief i find is if i can get someone to rub my neck and shoulders...the back of my head usually hurts and i try to rub that myself while laying down. the most important thing is to RELAX as much as possible (i know it's hardly possible in your situation...i've had similar experiences) you can try a hot bath and put your head actually down in the water and close your eyes and try to think of anything peaceful. it doesn't make it go away but it will ease it up some. and you're right..pain meds do not help! until you can get things under control around you, you won't be able to get rid of the headaches unless you go see the dr. caffeine i found made mine worse even though they say caffeine is good for headaches. that's just me though....your body might react different.

Massages help tension headaches so well. Just get someone to rub the back of your neck and shoulders. I get these all the time.
Here's a few more ways to relieve a bit of it
Take your thumb and press it to the middle of your forehead. You look like an idiot but it works.
Take a cold finger or something else cold and put it to the fold of your outer ear, the fold that touches your skull.
Massage the tendons on the back of the hand. Just gently rub your fingers across the soft area. It's a pressure point I do believe and helps with all sorts of things.
As for calming down, Yoga has done wonders for anyone I have met. My instructor does it to relieve back pain, I do it to relieve emotional problems, another student does it to help with sciatica. It's stopped a lot of my headaches as well. If at all possible, get a few classes or tapes. You may love it.

I usually have terrible migraines when I'm physically stressed, like when i'm forced to run long distances or do physical hardwork(Yessh, I'm a geek.) When I was younger, an instant solution is my mom massaging my temples for like a half an hour, but now that i live away from home and single, of course that wont work. Lately ive found an alternative solution that dont need anybody else (and pills usually dont work):
Focus on a blade of grass. This single blade of grass is swaying gently in slow motion in a greenish field of grass. At that repeating moment, nothing else in the whole wide world is existent or elementally important. Only that serene blade of grass swaying is important.
When you're having a stress related tension headache, I believe its like migraine too. You're greatest enemy is your brain activity. And you have to DONT THINK. Which is the hardest thing to do in the world because thinking about it IS thinking. So focus on something extremely trivial and negligible, like a blade of grass. The green grass helps because green is an eye friendly colour.
Water also helps significantly. Drink tons.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

The absolute best cure for this is chamomile tea, it works almost instantly.. just put 3 tea bags of chamomile tea in a cup, pour hot water over it, let it sit for 1 minute, by the time you're done drinking it your headache should be completely gone
The stress though probably requires a couple shots of liquor.

eat celery - YES - celery - there is a chemical there
that helps the electro things speed through the traffic jams and
slide through the brain highway
also you can use one thumb and forefinger to put pressure
on the area betweeen the other thumb and forefinger - and
squeeze and rub - then change hands - should also
give some relief
best of luck (and a little peanut butter on the celery ain't bad either)

The technique takes 5-10 minutes, and I find it very useful for most types of the headache. You can do it to yourself, and does not take more than 10 minutes to learn.
It works almost instantaneously and people often feel relief before the routine is completed.
Get good! You're welcome!
