i take vitimans and protien but i want to take it to another level. i have reached a point where my muscles have quit increasing in size. i have tried changing my workout and working out harder but there have been know results. i would like to get on something other than steriods to increase the size of my muscles.

You HAVE to increase your caloric intake of the healthy macronutrients (protein, carbs, fats) as your body increases in size. A general rule of thumb for bodybuilders is 1 gram of protein, 1.5-2 grams of carbs per pound of bodyweight per day, and about 15% of your caloric intake in good fats. This is minimum for those trying to increase muscle mass. Also, you should be eating 5-6 meals per day. The idea is to continuously attain a positive nitrogen balance in your system as this is what keeps your body at its most anabolic.

So, increasing your caloric intake and especially making sure you're getting enough protein will definitely be your first step. Not getting enough is a mistake many people make and causes more plateaus than any other reason.

If you must, as mentioned above, creatine is always a good supplement to try. Don't expect amazing gains from it, but it does help by aiding in recovery and keeping ATP levels higher during your workout (ATP is the primary energy source during intense exercise).

Take a close look at your workout. Make sure you're not stagnating. The body has a habit of adapting quickly to stimuli. This is why you need to break your routine once in a while because your body gets used to the same movements. Also, make sure you're not overtraining, another big cause of plateaus. Also, another issue is not being consistent enough. This can also lead to training plateaus. Switching up too much or not going to the gym enough can be a problem. Finally, doing too many sets and reps will be counterproductive - this interferes with recovery and stimulates the wrong muscle fibers.

Once in a while you do need to give your body a break. I usually take a few days off from the gym every 8-10 weeks or so. This allows the immune system, nervous system and endocrine systems to fully recover after weeks of grueling punishment. And speaking of recovery, you need to make sure you're giving your body plenty of rest.

Yea I don't recommend steroids. IMO, they just aren't worth the potential side-effects. Plus, steroids and andro products are illegal.

if you don't count calories don't expect to make continuous gains in muscle size. as the amount of lean muscle mass increases so does the need for more calories/nutrients.

if you haven't been weight training and dieting religiously for a at least 10 years you are no where near your natural genetic potential so steroids shouldn't even be an option.
