Okay. I just did this! My daughter is almost six years old. Had horrible bedtime habits....i.e. wanted to sleep with us, came in and out of her room constantly, tried every excuse in the book including thirst, hunger, bathroom, could only agree to sleep with the T.V. on, threatened to take away toys, playdates, daytime cartoons, EVERYTHING! So, this has worked for me for about a week now. I unplugged her T.V., put two nightlights in her room, no more threats, just said this is how it is 8:00 and you go to bed. We say her prayers, give a hug and a kiss, and close the door. That's it. She tried to come out and I took her by the hand with much protest and tantrums and put her in bed and calmly said, "Nope, Mommy told her, no more, this is it." So far, it has totally worked. I am much happier than I used to be because of it. I think the key is I never got angry, I just used my authority. I hope this helps. Good luck.

If you say you are going to take away his toys you should take them away. Your son is smart and knows that daddy says a lot of things, but never follows through.
One thing with kids is they pick up on those things. And, if they get the jest you aren't going to follow through..they'll walk all over you. Next time hubby says it and your son doesn't listen start picking them up yourself. Tell hubby to come on and help. Then, after the toys are picked up, take them to your closet or some place. Let him realize his toys are gone.

Sounds like the only one who knows what's going on her is your son. For some reason he seems to be the one in authority here.
You both need to grow a back bone and be parents! Children will walk all over you if you do NOT give them boundaries and discipline! STOP the threats and do what you say you're going to do!

Many adult men use this possibility to intimidate their ex-better halves. reality is, maximum adult men do no longer desire to be bothered having a newborn around. I doubt there is any choose around who might supply custody to this deadbeat dad. Get a restraining order against the fool.

What happened to starting him out with discipline, making EARN the priveliges he got rather than just handing them to him. Of course taking things away isn't going to have any affect because he has already HAD them. If you don't give them in the first place and make them have to EARN getting them they behave. I never had to take anything away from my daughter. That is because I never gave them without her earning them by behaving.

it is going to keep on as long as you let him get away with it. take his toys away and let him cry himself. I know it sounds harsh but he knows what he can get away with. and the more you bow down to him the more he will keep doing it. stand firm and show him that you are the boss and not him. it will be hard, but the results will turn out okay.

in my opinion: put him in the closet no lights, and the vacuum cleaner turned on, then shut the door for 1min. then ask him if he prefers to go to sleep or not. hey! i didn't say spank! some parents out there are so weak and want to ban spanking its ridiculous.
