I asked this question before. If there are 2 readings for a number, which do you use, and is there a website that lists them all? (Or if there are a few can you list them?) Or is there some clue to which one you use? Thanks.

This is actually a complicated question. In Japanese, when you count things, the pronunciation depends on what you are counting.
Example with the number "4":
Number four: shi, yon
Four days - yokka
Four books - yonsatsu
Four years old - yonsai

There is a list of number classifiers at the website listed. It's quite complicated:

4 = yon shi
7 = shi-chi nana
the first one is used for counting up and second is used for counting down
8 = hachi ya
9 = kyu ku
10 = jyu tou
the first part is the same as top
second part is usually used for names of things
the reading nana has no use except for counting things

there is an old way for counting in japanese but no one uses it anymore

japanese is very complicated when it comes to #s and counting so if you really want to know you should go to wikipedia or get some books
