Usually weddings are on Saturdays. More are happening on Friday nights to save money.
Saturday weddings vary from 10 or 11 am to 2, 3, 4 even 5 pm. Receptions usually follow to make it an entire day no matter when it starts.
Friday weddings are usually at 5 or 6 pm with reception to follow usually until midnight or later.

Weddings rarely happen on a Wednesday, so I don't think it would be a good excuse for getting out of work. Most weddings take place on Saturdays or Friday evenings.

Most weddings occur on Friday & Saturday. But Sunday is becoming more popular as is Thursday night.
But I've even performed a small ceremony on a Monday afternoon.
Why don't you just tell them you don't want to go??
What's gonna happen when they ask you about the wedding?

If you want to get out of going to an event, simply tell the person that you have other plans. It doesn't matter what your other plans are, you don't have to tell them. If they ask why you can't attend their event say, "I'd love to attend, but unfortunatly I have other plans (or a prior commitment) that I just can't get out of."
You DO NOT have to come up with a fake excuse! It is very rude of the other person to ask what your plans or prior commtments are and you don't have to tell them.

I stood up for one that happened on a Thursday afternoon. My brother in law and sister in law got married on a Tuesday. Most happen on weekends, but they can happen just about any time.
