Totally normal. The chemo is working to destroy cells in his body. Unfortunately, it is an indiscriminate killer, knocking out both healthy and un-healthy cells. The end result is that the body is worn out and sleep is necessary.

What is key is for you to keep your father moving and active. Rest is critical but so is activity. Even if it is walking around the block, get your dad up and moving. It will help to keep his attitude positive and his mind and body more active and stressed in a healthy way.

Good Luck!

It's probably his anti nausea medication that is making him sleepy. It will pass once he stops taking the meds (usually a few days after stopping the chemo he'll start feeling better). Let him sleep it off.

Actually, I've never seen him be tired from taking the chemotherapy . . he's on a two week cycle of low dose chemo right now and he often is up late playing online games on the computer. Hmmm.

I would suggest that your father be examined to make sure that nothing else is going on . . make sure that it is the medication and not some other underlying cause. I suspect though that it is his anti nausea meds . . . ativan and benedryl can make the patient really sleepy.

Kemo tends to make a person feel really weak & exhausted. In my opinion its normal. Do make sure he gets lots of rest & eats healthy. That helps. Also... let him know u'll always be there for him :) Making him happy, does wonders! :)

Take care.
God bless

Normal and good at the same time. Its better he be putting all extra energy into healing from the last dose. Positive thoughts are crucial.
Enjoy him when he is awake and tell him to sleep when he isn't up to the company.Hopes and Prayers are with you and your dad.

my son was in the hospital fo four months last year fighting cancer. At one point he slept for three weeks sraight. Chemo does make you very sick and very tired. But, sometimes it's not just the chemo. just from taking care of my son i notice all kinds of things add to the exhaustion like depression and fear. Try to keep his spirits up and help him keep mobile even if its just exercising him in the bed. oh, and take care of youself too. Cancer affects everybody involved physically and emotionally too. But im sure you already know that. god bless you and your family , I am praying for you.

Yes. Chemo is very draining on the body and can make you sick and tired. Some of the therapy intentionally makes you sleepy to give your body a break. Let him sleep. I'm sorry to hear that he is sick and I pray that he recovers. Blessings to you and your family.
