What they said above -- but not only do you hunt for treasures other people have left, you have to leave treasures for the next guy to find. Usually, these are small toys; something that can fit in a non-obvious weatherproof box or can.
Check out geocaching.com -- in the upper right part of the page, you can enter your zip code, to get a list of geocaches in your area. The funny thing is, sometimes people describe the location so well, that you don't really need the GPS coordinates to find the cache.
Bring some paper and a pen with you, so you can write a message for the next guy. (and don't forget to bring a small toy as treasure).

it's a nerd with a GPS that likes to waste gas searching for "hidden treasures" planted in secret locations by other nerds.

someone who looks for caches of whatever stored on earth (geo). you should have GPS tools to participate.
