Tantei (探偵) means detective or detective work. Tantei (短艇) means a little boat. It depends on how it is written & used.

As for ki, it has quite a lot of meanings, depending on how it is written & used.

Eg.
Ki wo ueru (木を植える) = To plant a tree
Ki no ii hito (気のいい人) = A good-natured person
etc.
