Atheists are only distancing themselves by doing this. So what's the point of this guilt tactic? It only makes us more defensive and judgmental of atheists so you're ruining your own image.

just ask an atheist why they try to convince creationists of evolution, when they know they won't get anywhere, and watch all of them respond by trying to prove evolution to creationists again, and you will see as I have, that they obviously are not very progressive in anything approaching what could be called a learning curve.

but don't get mad, atheists, you are just as dogmatic as the creationists!

What image are you refering to in your question? I don't see any immage that Atheists are projecting, except the immage that theists are labeling them with. The devide between theists and atheists is a natural devide, they contrast eachother naturaly.Idont understand what you mean in the sence you are saying "guilt tactic". Is using reason and logic in determining the nature or "outcome" of an idea or concept, a reason for anyone to have a guilt feeling? Could blindly following an idea or concept without logical investigation and emperical evidence make a person have a guilt feeling? Also to comment on the last part of your question, you say that when atheists associate religious persons with violent fascists that you are put on the defencive and as a result become more judgmental of atheists. You have made a very strong case for the atheist to feel that religion is linked with fascism and violence. Take the Inquisition for example, when "religious" people felt defensive and judgmental of atheists or "Heritics" what did they do? It was pretty ugly by anyones standards. So as far as immages are concerned, it is not the atheist that needs to support a positive immage, It is the "religious" person that has to realise that people are waking up and seeing thrue the thick layer of lies that have been pressed upon all of mankind for centurys and that their apathy for this world is being exposed by it's own folly. Technology is replacing the irrational practise of "Faith".

You wanna talk about guilt? Ask a christian.

Edit: By the way. Why do you have such an incredible disdain for atheists? Did some atheist offend you so badly that you have to criticize and disrespect the entire group? Almost every single one of your questions pertains to something "anti-atheist". Why don't you get off it, already!

I am an Atheist, but i do not treat religious 'people' as fascists - I like to be fair, informed, tolerant and honour other peoples belief systems. What i find hypocritical are 'people' who are zealots and fanatics (whatever their religion) who do not follow the moral code, as mentioned in their 'religious' books, who do not tolerate other religions or beliefs, who emphatically believe that they are right and force their opinions down OUR throats. They are the 'religious' people I get annoyed about, I do not treat them as fascist, even if they behave like it, i treat them with disdain and do my best to ignore them!!

The links below are from wikipedia (the online encyclopedia - which will give you the correct terms and meanings of zealot and fanatic!! )

maybe cause a lot of the time its true? when you hold religion above everything your creating just as much tension as some of the people your talking about. i dont want to walk down the street and have my beliefs mocked by some manic street preacher or be told what i can and cant do with my own body by some guy who says the bible says its wrong. and what happend to separation of church and state? if they were still separated gay people would be able to get married but some religious person stood up and said "no, look at the bible, right here, it says they cant!"

atheists generally do not bother arguing about normal theists coz, well, they're normal and there is nothing to yell about. when an atheist starts going on about religious people they mean the fundamentalists and most normal theists know that and don't start a riot about it either.

Seriously, nothing we do could do would ever make you more defensive or judgmental than you are! Hell, Christians pretty much got a lock on self-righteousness and being judgmental.

I think nothing is gained from generalizations. Both sides need to be respectful if you want to convert the other. If not then you are just amusing yourself.

Atheist/Agnostic.

Some people might get defensive and judge us, but another theist might genuinely think about what we're saying.
