Both.
Catholics and Eastern Orthodox were one and the same until they separated from one another in 1054. There are very few theological differences. The main difference is that the Eastern Orthodox Churches (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11329a.htm) use the Byzantine Rite (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04312d.htm) and the Roman Catholic Church use the Roman or Latin Rite.
Pope John Paul II said of the Eastern Orthodox Churches in Orientale Lumen, "A particularly close link already binds us. We have almost everything in common." (see http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/apost_letters/documents/hf_jp-ii_apl_02051995_orientale-lumen_en.html)
With love in Christ.

Orthodoxy was all Christianity for the first 4 centuries. Then when Rome fell, Christianity changed to become Roman Catholic. Later the Eastern Church went back to Orthodoxy. Both strains of Catholicism are equally valid-one has a Pope in Rome, the other does not.

1. Neither of them are "sects."
2. They split over a thousand years after Christ, so I don't think you can legitimately say one is "first."
However, if you ask me, I think the Orthodox has suffered less from various forms of doctrinal infiltration and corruption. That's not to say they're THE original Christianity (a lot happens in two thousand years) but they're a lot closer than the Catholics.

I believe Neither. The first Christians are those written about in the book of Acts and the Letters that Paul wrote to the Ephesians, Galatians, Corinthians, etc... And what what I can see from reading the Bible and studying catholic beliefs, they were not catholic, at least definitely not like the catholics that we know of today.

Neither. The Gnostic Christians were the first, later persecuted by the Catholics.
