I am in the U.S. Army my rank is SFC(E-7) with 10 years in service. I have been to the warzone twice!!! My base pay is around $3200 a month, I get about $1315 FOR MY HOUSING allowance(that depends on where u live it varies and i get $279 a month for food(or bas as it is called). This is all standard. AS for being deployed I get $150 a month for family seperation, My in come is not taxed so that is about a nother $280 (fed +state taxes) I get $300 a month for hazardous duty pay. also get $100 a month for safe pay. plus $3.50 per day for per dem(multpy that by the # of days deployed. The best thing is that the military gets a pay raise every year. Look at the pay charts for 2006 to 2007 as a good example. THE U.S. MILITARY IS THE HARDEST JOB IN THE WORLD. SO SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS. WE DEFEND FREEDOM, IT IS NOT FREE LOOK AT THE LIVES THAT HAVE BEEN LOST IN IRAQ.

My Husband is an E-4 who has been in the AF for 3 years. When he is home, he brings home $800 after taxes and insurances taken out. Whe he's in Iraq (he's there now) his check is $989 insurances taken out, there is no tax on his pay when he is there. Basically he gets an extra $225 (hazard pay) month to be there. When he returns and files his paperwork he will receive $250 for every monh he was over there (family separation pay). It's not much, especially since with him being over there, it'like running 2 households on one paycheck. He has to buy things over there to get by and I have to pay bills and doing everything else over here. If you are single or just married, I could see how you could make a little money but with kids FORGET IT!

Not much at all. Military pay grades are public information, and you can look it up on the various service web sites. It depends on grade and years of service. The basic pay chart is here: http://www.dod.mil/dfas/militarypay/newinformation/WebPayTableVersion2006updated.pdf
There are other grades for hazardous duty and medical corps, etc. but it's in general, not enough.

It depends on what branch and their pay grade. Also it depends on if they have any special training like special forces or linguistics. The basic minimum pay for an enlisted soldier is $1,178.10 per month.
