In December we had a really bad ice storm. I myself have TONS of trees, branches down in my backyard. A couple that are smaller have fallen in their backyard too. Should I put the branch up in their yard and get off the street? Should I pick up the branch and throw it in my huge pile? Should I leave it there? Should I clean out all the ones in their backyard which has no trees and then maybe they will pick up the one in the front that is obviously theirs (I have no trees in my front yard)? I am a Realtor but have only owned a home for 2 1/2 yrs. Not sure what the etiquette is. The last storm in July I had trees from neighbors in the back of me fall in my yard and I paid to have them cleaned up. I just don't have the money to do that this time.

You can ask them, but it is Winter.
If you pick them up tell them that you like the excersise.

If they don't pick the branch up, leave it. There are people that would leave that branch there forever and not even see it. If you clean up after them, they will expect it every time there is a storm and then you are stuck.

Most laws are if your neighbor's tree is hanging over on your property, you can remove the part that is hanging over.
You could just explain to them how you feel and ask them to keep up their yard better. Honestly I wish you were my neighbor. I sent my neighbor a letter in mid Jan. asking if he could assist in early spring cleaning up the winter mess. I like you. I have not heard from my neighbor and I probably won't.............

It would be polite to ask for their permision to go onto their property to remove any branches from your tree. If they say no, then forget about it.

It does not matter if they are renting, they pay to live there and it is their home. They will contact their landlord if they want work done.

The tree in front of their yard is none of your concern.

Are they renting the home from you? I would say unless it's on your property or obstructing your access to something I wouldn't worry about it, it's not your responsibility to clean up their yard, unless you are their landlord and it's in your agreement. If it's really bothering you maybe if you do clean up your yard they'll get the hint and clean up theirs, but I don't see why it would be your responsibility to keep their yard clean as well. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question though.

You are trying to make them guess what you want them to do. Just tell them, or offer to pick up the one in front for them. If it's important to you, you should offer to do it. Otherwise, quit trying to control other peoples' yards.

Call the owner of the house...you should be able to find them if you don't already know as it is a matter of public record.

Gotta love the blight of renters
