Is it the engagement you want or the ring? You can always buy yourself a ring.
Sorry if that sounds harsh, I know I have got a ring, but I have been engaged and married twice before and NEVER had an engagement ring before, it's just an outward symbol of the union anyway, not a legal requirement.

Yes. But turn about is fair play, if your doing the asking you should be get a ring for him as will. The ring is a show of your love for each other.
So do you love this man? Then tell him, show him, and let him know. And I believe he'll do the same.
Good luck in your new life together.

She can. Engagements, like weddings are all up to you what you do with them. Some couples opt for both partners to get rings regardless of who asks. Be sure that if you want a ring you get him a ring or other equally nice gift when you propose. I think it would be really romantic to get two similair or matching his and hers engagement rings. Good Luck!

That is the tradition; and that also is slowly disappearing. So, it is left to one's wish whether to get an engagement ring or not. It should be individual choice, this being the memorable event.
But for the present day it suffices to go straight to wedding ceremony considering the wastful time and also huge amount of
expenditure for engagement followed by wedding.

I've always believed that the person asking should be the one giving the ring to the other person so if a female asks the male then he gets the ring and vise veicre. but if you really want a ring to then buy it your self. that's just my opinion

If you are doing the asking, I would think you would get him a ring of some sort.. He may have said yes, but the proposal was your idea, so he wouldn't be obligated to get you a ring.

well when a man asks a woman to marry her, he gets a ring 2. So i'd say the woman gets a ring too. Don't know who'd pay for it but yeah!

I think so. I don't know of many women who have asked the men to marry them, but i don't see why she wouldn't get an engagement ring, they're engaged right? But maybe if she asked him, then they're not so traditional. Its up to the couple i guess

Yes just not when asked. An unconventional proposal does not mean unconventional engagement. If he said yes, he needs to cough up a ring, but give him time to find the right one, after all he wasn't prepared.
