I woke up with neck pains on 2/18/07. The pain went away after a couple of days. It started up again this past Saturday. I went to see a Chiropractor yesterday, and he took some x rays. Today I went for my results, and he said my neck bone was out of line and I can have treatment at his center. He cracked my neck and back today, and now I am in a lot of pain. How long does this pain usually last? Is it normal?

It only lasts a day or two then you'll feel awsome. You will have to keep going back though and you'll be able to tell when its time. Im a firm believer in chiropratics. It helped with my neck pain but not my shoulder. You'll love the way you feel after the pain goes away

If it is your first time in quite a while it takes longer to be 100% and more treatments (because they dont hold as well as when you are young) if you are an adult.

Info that helps (same muscles) Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

Pain or soreness from a manipulation should not last more than a day or two. If it does, then something is not quite right. If you continue to be in pain I would discontinue your treatment with the chiropractor and follow-up with your physician. You can ask him/her for a referral to a physical therapist. If mobilization/manipulation is needed a physical therapist can determine this and do so at the appropriate level of restriction and not just a general manipulation. You may also require other treatments - manipulation is not for everyone.

it should heal soon but u will have to keep going to him until it is better. i had the worst crick in my neck once and had to go to the chiropractor and everytime he cracked my neck it felt worse. but in a week it got better. try putting heat on it and make sure u have no space between ur neck and pillows so it supports the neck better. take some tylenol or something of that nature to help with pain. Good luck
